Perak is gearing up to host an extraordinary event that will mark Malaysia’s first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) driven festival.

Named the “Visit Ipoh Festival,” this groundbreaking initiative is scheduled to run from August 26 until October 1.

The Visit Ipoh Festival has ambitious goals – it aims to revolutionize the digital economy while promoting Ipoh as a leading cultural destination.

Supported by Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee chairman, Loh Sze Yee, the festival is set to draw an estimated 450,000 visitors and generate a substantial revenue of up to RM130 million over six weeks.

Loh expressed his pride in supporting the festival, stating, “This festival is not only a celebration of culture and art but also a stepping stone towards a thriving digital economy.”

He firmly believes that the Visit Ipoh Festival will serve as a benchmark for other Malaysian cities and regions, inspiring them to embrace the digital revolution and leverage its economic potential.

The festival’s planning and implementation will be led by Perak’s Cultural Economy Policy and Research Centre in collaboration with Go Plus Hub, the NFT partner for the event.

Jeff Wong, the founder, and CEO of Go Plus Hub, expressed excitement for the partnership, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing visitors with a unique and immersive experience while setting new standards for the integration of technology and art.

The festival’s educational aspect is also emphasized through a partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), enabling students to gain insights from the creative industry.

Assoc Prof Nor Fariza, chairman of UKM Centre for Research in Language and Linguistic, stressed that this collaboration offers invaluable opportunities for students to understand the industry’s ecosystem, equipping them to contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy and drive innovation.

“By understanding the full ecosystem of the industry, our students will be better equipped to contribute to the digital economy and drive innovation in Malaysia.

“We are also committed to researching, documenting, and archiving festival statistics, ensuring that the data becomes a valuable resource for future reference and analysis.”

The picturesque setting along the Kinta River Walk will add to the captivating experience for visitors as they explore and engage with various attractions, including art exhibitions, installations, cultural shows, and fairs, celebrating Ipoh’s rich heritage.

Notably, the festival will be graced by representatives from Fukuoka, the twin city of Ipoh, fostering cultural exchange between the two cities and offering visitors a chance to engage in food-tasting sessions while learning more about Fukuoka.

Another exciting highlight of the festival is the opening of Art Ipoh 2.0, curated by the renowned Philip Wong at Tin Alley.
