Bored Ape Yacht Club Holder Loses $164,400 in NFTs to Phishing Attack
A Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collector fell victim to a phishing scam, losing three rare NFTs valued at a total of $164,400.
Crypto investigator ZachXBT first identified the theft, suspecting a phishing attack was responsible.
This is further supported by blockchain explorer Etherscan, which linked the involved wallet to previous phishing scams. The exact details of the phishing method remain unknown.
The stolen apes include BAYC #7531 (white fur, 4% rarity), BAYC #6736 (small grin, 3% rarity), and BAYC #2100 (unique combination of traits with rarities between 0.5% and 5%).
Their individual values were estimated at $62,960,$47,500, and $54,000 respectively, according to OpenSea.
While these specific NFTs were high-value, the overall BAYC collection has seen a recent decline in floor price, dropping to 15.09 ETH as of May 8th.
Despite this, the collection still generated $13.3 million in trading volume between April 28th and May 5th.
