    Bitcoin Pizza Party Goes Global: CryptoBilis Celebrates Community in Malaysia and Philippines

    Bitcoin Pizza Day has a special place in cryptocurrency history. It marks the first time Bitcoin was used to purchase a physical good – two pizzas ordered by Laszlo Hanyecz in 2010.

    In the years since, the significance of this event has grown, symbolizing the potential of cryptocurrency to transform everyday transactions.

    This year, CryptoBilis in Malaysia is taking Bitcoin Pizza Day to a whole new level, hosting a global celebration that brings the crypto community together across borders.

    It’s a testament to how far the event has come since its humble beginnings in 2021.

    FROM PANDEMIC GATHERINGS TO REGIONAL PHENOMENON

    “We started this event (Bitcoin Pizza Day) in 2021, during the pandemic, when there was a slight break in the lockdown,” explains Arravind Prabu, co-founder of CryptoBilis and the mastermind behind Bitcoin Pizza Day Malaysia.

    “We managed to get a few guys together at a pizza parlor, did a small celebration, took some photos, and then we went back.”

    That initial gathering sparked a realization for Arravind: the crypto community craved connection.

    He said, “Then in 2022, when the lockdown eased, there wasn’t really any event that brought the community back together. Even if there was any, most of the events were done on a small scale and organized by individuals.”

    “So we wanted to do one (event) for the entire community, and that’s how the Bitcoin Pizza Day came about.”

    The event quickly gained momentum, attracting over 400 attendees in 2022 and a staggering 800 in 2023.

    “We were oversold within a month,” Arravind recalls about the 2022 event.

    “We ended up having about 400 people show up. That was our first successful event.”

    A SHIFT IN FOCUS: FOSTERING INTIMACY AND INNOVATION

    While the 2023 event boasted record attendance, CryptoBilis is taking a different approach this year.

    “In 2023, we had the largest Bitcoin Pizza Day although the venue wasn’t so comfortable. We still managed to pull out about 800 people to attend.

    “We’re very thankful for the community that supported us. So this year, we wanted to bring back the intimacy,” says Arravind.

    “The ultimate objective is that you come there, find like-minded people, have fun with them, and create new business opportunities. That’s the main idea for the event.”

    To achieve this goal, CryptoBilis is hosting simultaneous events in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Manila, Philippines, with a capacity of 500 attendees at each location.

    This allows for a more personal experience where attendees can truly connect and network.

    BEYOND PIZZA: A CELEBRATION OF LEARNING AND COLLABORATION

    Of course, no Bitcoin Pizza Day would be complete without pizza (and there will be plenty!), but the focus extends far beyond the food.

    This year’s event features a wider international presence, with companies and speakers joining from the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

    “I think it’s exciting because we managed to get our main sponsor, who is from the Czech Republic, to come down,” says Arravin, highlighting the event’s global reach.

    COMMUNITY AT THE CORE: A WELCOMING SPACE FOR ALL

    One of the most important aspects of Bitcoin Pizza Day for Arravind is fostering a sense of community within the crypto space.

    “We want to bring all these projects together,” he says, “get them leads where they can grow and build new relationships.
