Following Musk’s statement, the market price of Dogecoin experienced a sudden surge, jumping from $0.172 to $0.188, marking a 9.3% increase as the news gained traction.
Musk reiterated his support for Dogecoin, emphasizing its potential by saying “Dogecoin to the moon”.
He also mentioned that fans can already use DOGE to purchase Tesla merchandise.
The decision to accept Dogecoin came after employees at the Tesla Gigafactory and visitors at SpaceX urged Musk to support the meme-inspired cryptocurrency.
Musk expressed his preference for Dogecoin as a crypto favored by the general public, stating, “Doge is people’s crypto, so I will support it,” in contrast to Bitcoin, which he noted is supported primarily by wealthy individuals.
