Leading cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has secured a VASP registration from the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), marking a pivotal milestone in its European growth strategy.
This registration paves the way for Kraken to enter the Dutch market, offering its comprehensive suite of industry-leading products to clients in the Netherlands.

Brian Gahan, Managing Director Europe for Kraken, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “With the addition of the Dutch VASP registration, our European growth strategy continues to accelerate. We see significant opportunities to introduce our offerings to both retail clients and professional traders in the Netherlands and across Europe.”
The Netherlands boasts a dynamic startup and technology sector, a robust financial services industry, and one of the highest fintech adoption rates among developed economies.
Notably, around 20% of Dutch citizens currently own cryptocurrencies, indicating a strong crypto adoption rate in the country.
Recognizing the strategic importance of the Dutch market, Kraken previously announced its proposed acquisition of Dutch crypto broker BCM in October 2023.
In anticipation of the forthcoming implementation of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework, Kraken has accelerated its investment in the region’s crypto industry growth.
Amidst a highly fragmented European landscape, Kraken aims to consolidate its position by leveraging its financial and operational resources.
Kraken offers clients access to over 200 digital assets, market-leading liquidity, stringent security standards, and round-the-clock client support, positioning itself as a top choice for both existing crypto investors and newcomers alike in the evolving European crypto landscape.
