You Used To Call Me On My SOL-Phone, Saga Goes Public On May 8!
Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, recently launched Saga, its new flagship Android mobile phone designed to provide a secure way to transact in Web3 and manage digital assets such as tokens and NFTs.
Solana’s co-founder, Anatoly Yakovenko, sees Saga as a device that sets a new standard for the Web3 experience on mobile. “Almost 7 billion people use smartphones around the world, and more than 100 million people hold digital assets – and both of those numbers will continue to grow,” said Yakovenko.
The Saga phone comes with a Solana Mobile Stack, which enables developers to create rich mobile experiences for wallets and apps on Solana. The Solana Mobile Stack SDK is already available to developers, while pre-orders of the Saga phone are currently being shipped. The public sale is expected to go live on May 8, 2023.
The Saga phone costs $1,000 and features a 6.67” OLED display, 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, the latest Snapdragon® 8 + Gen 1 Mobile Platform, with added privacy features.
One of the challenges of creating a mobile-first Web3 experience is the limitations posed by app stores owned by Google and Apple. Solana is tackling this issue by relying on crypto-specific hardware to create new products that were not possible before. These include:
- Access keys securely with Secure Elements while keeping seed phrase private
- Prevent wallet deceit with Trust Zone during signing process
- Utilise APIs for Bip 39 Key Recovery
- Explore fee-less Decentralised dApp Marketplace (0.2% transaction fees later on)

Upon setting up their Saga and the Solana dApp Store, users will receive a unique device-bound non-transferrable NFT called the Saga genesis token. This token is the key to unlocking exclusive content and offers, linked to the Saga Rewards program.
