Did you know that two neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia and Singapore have recently launched their versions of non-fungible token (NFT) vending machines? Here we’ve compiled some bite-size info just so you won’t be feeling FOMO!
Malaysia’s First NFT Vending Machine
Malaysia’s leading vending machine solutions provider, ATLAS Vending, recently launched pop-up NFT vending machines in commemoration of this year’s Malaysia Day which was held on 16th September 2022.
Located at Kuala Lumpur’s popular art and culture hub, REXKL, each of the 13 vending machines represents an NFT artist from every Malaysian state and dispenses their unique artworks that incorporate the country’s art and culture.
“NFTs have surged in popularity in recent years and have completely revolutionised the blockchain sector. Hence, we wanted to bring all 13 local NFT artists together to appreciate their work and draw Malaysians’ attention to the NFTs.”
Each machine contains 300 rare NFT artworks, out of which 50 are rare platinum NFTs that will be dispensed randomly and can be purchased through cashless payment at RM59 (USD$12.59).
Singapore Created a Vending Machine That Dispenses Free NFTs
In efforts to make art more accessible to the public as well as instils a sense of ownership by integrating blockchain technology towards the public, Singapore’s top art gallery, National Gallery Singapore (NGS) constructed its first vending machine prototype which dispenses free non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to the public.
The prototype platform was developed through NGS’ Y-Lab, an art and tech convergence product innovation lab with art-technology firm ArtWallStreet. It contains commissioned artworks by NGS based on the works of a Singaporean artist known as TheNextMostFamousArtist.
According to ArtWallStreet’s Chief Executive, Arun Sugumaran, the vending machine prototype is ready to be tested and now is on display at the NGS’ Y-Lab Showcase space, where the public is welcomed to interact with it and provide feedback. Visitors can redeem their free NFT by simply scanning a QR code and will not need to have a crypto wallet. All they have to do is just log in or create an account via email.
